ABOUT US

The Charlottesville Debate League is a non-profit, student-run organization based out of the University of Virginia - located in Charlottesville, VA. We believe that speech and debate programs are incredibly important for the development and middle and school school students as they teach invaluable skills like public speaking and research. Debate has also been shown to improve academic performance, encourage civic engagement, and help prepare students for college. Our goal is to provide speech and debate infrastructure for all of Central Virginia.

The Charlottesville Debate League was granted Contracted Independent Organization status by the University of Virginia since 2013. The organization is entirely staffed by students of the undergraduate and graduate schools within the University, including the Executive Board itself. We provide coaches, curricula, topic briefs, and tournaments for local middle and high schools in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area.

With an understanding that debate is often a costly and time-intensive program, we are dedicated to provide our services free of charge.
