programs

The Charlottesville Debate League currently offers a number of programs in middle and high schools around the Charlottesville/Albemarle area. To request a program at your school, please contact us.

Program structure

We provide 100% of the materials required for our programs, including the teachers! Normally, two members will be assigned to teach a program at each school each semester. More often than not, teachers remain at their respective schools for the whole academic year, if not their entire tenure in CDL. Teachers receive multiple training sessions each semester to ensure they are prepared to teach the subject effectively and provide quality, positive feedback. Teachers also receive a curriculum each week for use in the classroom - including presentations, practice activities, video examples, and mock debates.

In addition to our classroom and after-school programs, we also host two middle school tournaments each semester - providing our students the opportunity to put what they learned in the classroom to use debating real-world questions. Our high school students are offered opportunities to participate in tournaments not sponsored by CDL.
